whobody had a rollerskating birthday party?

Lola turned SIX.

She is in Kindergarten...so we decided to let her have a little birthday party with some friends.  Lola had a great idea.  For her Birthday party, she wanted to go rollerskating and bowling at the same time.  Jason nicknamed that "bowlerskating".... I told the both of them that she needed to choose just one.  So...rollerskating won.

I called the parents of 4 of her closest friends
(trust me she wanted more)....
and invited them to Lola's rollerskating birthday!

Here is Lola before we picked her friends up....as you can tell, she was a tiny bit excited!

We picked up each of her friends and headed to Prairie to go to Pizza Hut for lunch.

The girls were all SO good at Pizza Hut (and really the whole time)... They had lots of fun coloring their place mats, eating the bread sticks, and having pizza!  I was worried that they might get a little wild or giggly at lunch...but they did not....and were very good.

By the way, it is so much fun listening to 5 and 6 year olds having a conversation. CUTE!

We actually ate a little faster than we had expected, so we had about 30 minutes to waste before the roller rink opened....so, we decided to go to Fort Fun.
(Which Jason has now nicknamed Fort Boring.)

The girls all had a blast at Fort Fun and really all played together well!  I love the make believe games that come up when groups of girls are together.  I also LOVE to see all of the different and FUN personalities of Lola's friends. So fun to get to know the girls that she always talks about!

We then headed to the rollerskating rink.

NOW...if you are from the area, and, like me, went rollerskating 20+ (yikes) years ago when you were in elementary school....let me tell you something.

The.place.has.not.changed.a.bit.

It is still exactly the same...and was actually perfect for her birthday party.  I very vividly remember being in 4th? grade and having a sleepover birthday party that included coming to the roller rink.  It also included all of us girls wearing some sort of fluorescent colored spandex clothing (yes, Lynn and I had matching neon green spandex shorts)...I just wish I could find pictures.  Too funny that Lola is now doing that sort of birthday party...minus the neon clothes, thank goodness.

We started out with the girls just skating on the carpeted area...a little easier....and a tad bit safer.
(Not really, but it felt safer.)
In hindsight...kindergarten is too young for a rollerskating birthday party. I was SURE we would end up at the ER with a broken bone before the day was over.

Skating was very hard for all of them....and there were lots and lots and lots of falls...BUT no one seemed to mind....or even said they got hurt!

But...we will wait a few years before we take others rollerskating again. I was nervous!
They all really did have FUN though....they would just fall and giggle, fall and giggle, fall and giggle.  We had the place to ourselves for most of the time....
We ventured out to the rollerskating floor for a little while... some girls were braver than others...but they all did very well and had lots of fun. They really enjoyed the music & lights & disco ball!

We took a break and let Lola open her presents. She really loved every single one! Fun!

Then they headed out for a little more rollerskating....

When I had had enough....and decided to not risk anyone
getting injured :) I had them take off their skates and come over for cupcakes.

We actually picked up the cupcakes from Piggly Wiggly before the party...the frosting seemed pretty thick and heavy on the food coloring...but the girls thought that was AWESOME!
(I am sure that if their moms read this post, they will be so proud....)

Since I made the girls take off their skates...we ended the afternoon with a DANCE PARTY!
I think all of the girls had a great time....

Lola is very lucky to already have found great friends...who really are all very sweet girls!!!

I think Lola had a very happy birthday party!!
